A summary of organ donation and transplantation activity in Kerala during the period of January- December 2020.

Kerala, the southernmost state of India, has attracted international attention for its outstanding achievements in population health despite its economic backwardness.  Kerala’s achievements in the health sector have been often cited as role models for the country. Kerala boast of the best health statistics in India and some of those statistics are comparable to those in the western world. Kerala is a state of about 38,000 square kilometers with 32 million people. Many of its health indicators surpass those of other Indian states; some are even on par with developed countries. Media Report On Deceased Organ Transplantation

On 18th July 2020 afternoon, Dr. Noble Gracious S S, Nodal Officer, KNOS received an alert of a potential brain death patient from Dr. Muraleedharan R, Transplant Procurement Manager, KIMS Hospital, Trivandrum. In view of the current pandemic spread of COVID-19 in our state, KIMS Hospital, Trivandrum took the permission from the Appropriate Authority(DME) to proceed with organ retrieval and transplantation process. The Nodal Officer also informed Principal Secretary, H&FWD, JDME, Principal, Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum (Convenor KNOS) regarding the deceased organ donation through email. ..Read More >>
